I have a linux file server in my office. I connect to this server from my windowsxp desktop by using samba server. The problem is that once I connect to the samba server, I have no way to logoff from the server so that I won't be able to login as a different user.
Is there anyway to logoff from a samba server?

I think you actually want to log off windoze
and then log back in as a different user. I
think windoze tries using the currently
logged on user first and only prompts for a
username and password if it can't connect.

Connecting to a samba share using a
GNU/Linux client you can pass the username
when you mount it....don't know about how to
do it under windoze.

Hi, I am also having this problem. I have just set up a samba server to back files up onto, and to store work and to work a printer server.

I managed to sort out all the users, but I log on in windows through My Network Places and it works fine.

Now I need to log off on this computer so I can log on as a different user. I can't see any visible way of doing this.

If you can help I would be gratefull.

Are you running a domain or just a plain
workgroup? When connecting to the samba
server windoze should supply the username
and password of the currently logged on
user. If the server doesn't know the user
then it will prompt you for a different
username and password. How are you logging
onto the windoze machines? If you are
logging on locally (eg username\computer)
rather than on to a domain (eg
username\domain) then the server wont know
the user.

When mapping a network drive in windoze, can
you right-click on the share on the server
and then in the sharing dialogue is there
not an option to connect as a different
user? Sorry, I know how to connect as a
different user under GNU/Linux but I'm not a
windoze user, perhaps posting this in the
windoze forum may help...?
