Have you tried typing "startx" (without quotes) then pressing the enter key.

Yes.
Then, modify the file /etc/inittab and change this line:
id:3:initdefault:
to
id:5:initdefault:
This will change it to boot to X-windows.
Good luck.

What happened when you entered "startx"? If X-Windows didn't start, try this:
# mcc
(I use Mandrake 8.2, so results may vary)
This should allow you to set up your video card/resolution, etc., for X-Windows.
Next, try running "startx" again. If it boots, reboot and you should get a graphical login.
One thing I don't necessary understand is from your original post, "i changed some settings in Login Manager". What login manager are you talking about?
Good luck.

It sounds like you don't have the X font server running. Try this:
# service xfs restart
It that doesn't work, try this:
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
Then, run "startx".
(To make this permanent, running "mcc", go into services and make sure "xfs" loads at boot.)

What's the error? Do you even have the xfs package installed?
Enter this at a command prompt:
# rpm -ql XFree86-xfs
You should get a list of files that are installed with this package, including /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs, which is what I suggested you execute.
If the package is not installed, install it (from the cd, "rpm -i filename"). If the package is installed, then what's the error message you are getting from "/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs"?
