Hi I installed Fedora 6 a few days ago, og wanted to start with command line login. I edited the /etc/inittab-file, and changed the "id:5:initdefault:" to id:3:initdefault:. But when I run the "startx" command, to start the default GUI, which I believe is GNOME desktop), I ran into a Unix-like X-window. Does anyone know how to get back tha default GUI. I've tried to change back to id:5:initdefault:, but this wont work.

...or create a file called .xinitrc in your home directory containing: exec gnome-session
Alternatively you may find some example xinitrcs already on your computer, possibly lurking somewhere under /etc/X/xinit and called things like xinitrc.gnome, xinitrc.kde etc. Just copy the one you want to ~/.xinitrc and away you go.

Hi there, thanks for your replies. If I try "exec gnome-session" from the command-line, I get "-bash: exec: gnome-session: not found"
If I run "switchdesk" I get "command not found".
Because what I want, is to log into the command-line, and if I need, start the GUI from there.......

You have to have "exec gnome-session" in a file called .xinitrc located in your home directory....

Hi 3Dave Sorry, misunderstood, but after creating the .xinitrc I was able to start GNOME with startx, thanks a lot.
But, while I'm asking, after starting GUI I've noticed that the mouse is pretty slow. not responding exactly,I've tried to adjust the mouse settings, but that didn't help. Could anyone think of any reason?
