I have been on various project pages for
Linux. I am wondering how do gamers go
about playing on a Linux platform and with
projects how do I load them into my system,
quite used to doing it as the screen
prompts me. need help.

Depends on the game, with games such as Quake III, you have to download the linux-x86(most likely) binaries from fileplanet.com or similar site, read the README files within the packages and follow step by step. They'll tell you that the linux binary files require the game files from your windows installation...or at least the game play files from your games disc.
Now...as for games like starcraft, I believe of which uses DirectX you required to use WineX available via http://www.transgaming.com/ pre-packaged files are only available to subscribers so if you want it for free (I believe) you'll have to compile it from source, not too hard, just follow the README that is most likely accompanied in the package.
Other than that, I think most people will resort to Windows for gaming, it's just ...dare I say more mature in that respect. Games have been engineered to play in that environment, linux is still yet a greenhorn when it comes down to the gaming business, at least I would believe so.
