I would like to make a CD-ROM that one can boot a non working system that has sys admin tools on it so I can troubleshoot the system and or fix it. Is there a way to make a bootable CD that will take me from a powered down system to a "Someone@somewhere # " Linux prompt as root. The CD does not need to be rewriteable (as this isnt possible anyway with Linux)

Any bootable distro would do. Knoppix is
probably the most popular but for your needs
something like phlak, the ultimate boot cd,
or one of the slax ditros may be more
appropriate. I think all the above have
instructions for customising the CD too.
