OS: MDK 8.2
CPU/Ram: AMD XP 2400+/512
Comment:

I'm having problems starting up from my CD with Mandrake 8.2, I've never had these problems before and even when I take it to another machine it boots and starts install just fine, just on my machine it won't boot and start install I have a:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
512MB Ram
80GB Hard Drive
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
6 USB

and all the normal, when the startup get's to the blue screen where it says loading program into memory, it hangs, goes to console and says "Abnormal program termination, system shuting down", what do I do, do I just need to download the new version of MDK or can this be fixed? Please help, I've installed this system before on another machine that was almost exactly alike?

Usually when I see this error while running the
installation CD, I think there is an issue
with the CD, but if it boots OK on other
machines, this is not the case.

I reccomend you download the current stable
version of Mandrake which is 9.2, and try
that [you will see MandrakeLinux 10
Community which is a developemental version,
not a stable, final release - caution is
suggested with this one].

An other option is to make a boot floppy
using rawritewin.exe under Windows [in the dosutils directory] and the cdrom.img file [in the images directory] on the instalation CD.

I tried it with the disk and the same thing, I think it might be a problem with the kernel version and my system, when I boot off of the second MDK CD it allow me to use to older versions of the kernel(don't ask which ones I Forget), but it does boot if I choose the most recent of the two, the only problem is, it won't let me mount the ext3 FS I create with the partition manager, it will create them and format them, it just won't mount them, says the device doesn't exist, but it will allow me to create and format and mount any other one, including Rieser and XFS, what do I do, I'm afraid it will do the install using the old version of the kernel and not the new one, and also I don't know of the reliability of the other? What do you suggest?
