I'm fairly new to linux so i'm guessing this is a simple question for someone to answer... Is there a way to dual boot windows xp and linux (RH9) without using grub or lilo?... is it possible to just edit the boot.ini file a certain way and copying over some linux files?... i was checking around the net and there are a lot of how-to's, but i wasn't clear on whether or not lilo or grub had to be installed or used... i have 2 harddrives 1 with xp on it and linux on the other... if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
ToPo

Yes, it is possible.

Install lilo-or-grub to the /boot partition on your Linux system.

(If you don't have a /boot partition, use /).

Make a binary copy of the first 512 bytes of the /boot partition using 'dd'. Name the file 'bootsect.lnx'.
Copy that file to C:\bootsect.lnx on the Win box.

Edit C:\boot.ini and at the bottom of the [operating systems] stanza add:

C:\bootsect.lnx="My Linux System"

Also, in boot.ini, make sure the [boot loader] stanza has a line like:

timeout=20

(I am making a bunch of assumptions about your box here .... so proceed carefully)
