Comment:

I recently set up my modem successfully.

However, when I started the machine up again it runs through the start up and when it gets to the following check:

Bringing up interface ppp0:

It loads no further.

Please Help

Cheers

How long do you wait before you decide it's not going to load any further? I ask because I have had the same prob and foung that if you wait up to 5 mins it does go past that point. It usually pauses at that point if the modem isn't set correctly, and eventually comes up with a failed rather than OK.
Hope this helps

thanks for the last response but no I wait for about 20 mins.

If I enter the interactive startup and say no to starting ISDN
and Service Network I can get in and use the modem etc.

Still investigating further but if anyone has any ideas that
would be great.

Thanks!!

do you need ISDN services? if not i would suggest recompiling you kernel and removing it.

thanks for the response.

I've tried using the interactive start u p and saying yes to ISDN is not the problem.

It is the Service Network which causes it to hang on:

'Bringing up interface ppp0:'

thanks

thanks for the responses.

I have now sorted it.

When I set up the modem the pppo config file was set to connect to dial up to the internet on boot. So I just set the relevant parameter to no.

cheers
