linux will not load

I recently set up my modem successfully.
However, when I started the machine up again it runs through the start up and when it gets to the following check:

How long do you wait before you decide it's not going to load any further? I ask because I have had the same prob and foung that if you wait up to 5 mins it does go past that point. It usually pauses at that point if the modem isn't set correctly, and eventually comes up with a failed rather than OK. Hope this helps Regards

thanks for the last response but no I wait for about 20 mins.
If I enter the interactive startup and say no to starting ISDN and Service Network I can get in and use the modem etc.
Still investigating further but if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

do you need ISDN services? if not i would suggest recompiling you kernel and removing it.

I've tried using the interactive start u p and saying yes to ISDN is not the problem.
It is the Service Network which causes it to hang on:
'Bringing up interface ppp0:'

I have now sorted it.
When I set up the modem the pppo config file was set to connect to dial up to the internet on boot. So I just set the relevant parameter to no.
