I'm looking for a web-based Linux file management system. Essentially, we want our clients to go to a web site, log in (so it should have its own user accounts) and retrieve their files that have been outputted to the server. The users will have different permissions, some of them group-based, depending on what they should have access to. It should also support SSL. Any ideas?

You can achieve all that with webmin and usermin (www.webmin.com). If you haven't played around with it before then it's definitely worth a look. With usermin you can restrict the modules that users can see so you could easily just give them the file manager. It can be run over http or https.
