Comment: Hi friends, I heard that there are some Linux tools capable to "see" and format harddisk partitions on SATA II HD that had been preformatted by Vista and having Vista on it. This is to put XP easily on such a HD... Can anybody tell me the name of such a Linux tools? Many thank in advance! Zennon

Reply: (edit)Why can't you repartition/format using the XP CD? Google up "Ultimate Boot CD" "And that's the fishing line, because Sharkboy said so!"

Reply: (edit)It couldn't see a partition because it didn't have the drivers for the sata adapter. Either reconfigure your bios if it will allow the sata to be seen as an ide. Otherwise slipstream you xp disk with updates and drivers. If you make a barts or ubcd4win you will have to have drivers. Even if linux can see the partition (which most newer distros can) you run into a install issue. Not sure anyone ever used wine to install xp. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10
