Comment:

okay.. I just bought a computer [AMD Sempron 2400+ with Linspire] and I want to put Windows XP on it. When I put in the XP cd to install XP, I format the partitions, and then I try to install the XP setup to that partition, and when it goes to reboot the computer to "continue the setup," it doesn't want to "remember" that it already has the setup and it tries it again.. my mother is having the same problem with the same exact computer because she bought the same one, only she is REALLY slow at telling me things because... well.. i just guess she is stupid.. so I am asking you people because I am sure that you all will respond before she does... heh...

thanks..

yeah..

get a windows 98 startup disk. put that in, run "fdisk". delete the existing partition. then make a dos partition, w/ large disk support. then go and try to install windows. hope it works.

Sometimes i feel just like you,,Linux as a concept is a ver good idea and SUSE 5.3 has just topps graphics and office systems but i cant get it all to work properly.
Im beginning to think the production wasnt thought out properly and things have been ommitted--but im not sure if its not just me getting things wrong

Dave,
Linux has came a long way in recent years, get a really new distro with good hardware support like MEPIS and all your hardware is more likely to be detected and working correctly than it is with w2k or xp, plus it'll only take around 20 min to install.

linuxsucks,
not an ideal choice of name when your looking for help on a linux forum !

hmmmm, i personally don't judge a person by their name. but the problem of installing a new distro is that you have to download a new os. and as we all know, if you have dialup, it may take a week. and that is if the os can be all on 1 disk. but most of the linuxes are on dvd or 3-5 cd's.

What does this mean, exactly? Is the computer booting from the hard drive or the CD at this point?

once it restarts the first time, take out the cd, that do the trick. or you can call microsoft and have them walk you through it.

What does the title suggest? Is your PC a new one or is it once used for Linux?
