I am running Win98 on my primary drive, and tried to install Mandrake Linux on the secondary drive. I didn't like Linux at all, so I used the PowerQuest PartitionMagic Linux Prep Tool that came with the linux CD to get rid of the linux partition. Then I used FDISK to reclaim the space and formatted. The problem is that the swap file, which is about 300mb that linux created did not get erased and now I can't get rid of it. Fdisk calls it a "non-DOS partition". Any ideas?

Don't expect from a dos/win fdisk
to "see" a non dos/win partitionLinux has it's own fdisk(cfdisk) which
can delete linux swap partitionsJust download a mini linux distr from freshmeat.net.Make a floppy and
boot with it.Then run fdisk from there
and delete the swap partition. You may also
use a rescue(not an installation) floppy that
you may have with your distrThere are other ways but i think this is the easiest.

You can run DOS fdisk, choose delete, non-dos partition, and it will go away. Run FDISK /MBR to remove the LILO boot record.

Justin,
I did have the same problem. And fdisk would not delete the the non-DOS partition. I used Western Digital free download software. I did use it to write zeros to the disk. That is why I am getting away from Microsoft. I have used fdisk to remove non-dos partitions before. It works most of time. I don't know why. Same with Win 95 every time I do an installation it seems that it does not install the same things. Like sometimes it finds my modem and installs drivers for it & sometimes I have to use the modem driver disk. When I leave my PC on for more than 10 hrs. I do expect it to lockup. The processor is cool. I have 96MB RAM. Goig from 64 to 96 helped some. At 64MB RAM it would crash after 3 or 4 hrs. sometimes. Red Hat has never crashed. And I have had it on for 3 or 4 days in a row before. I love Red Hat. Hope this helps. I do use Win 95 sometimes as I am still new to Linux & will get away from Win 95 as soon as possible. Linux is the future. Because so many people are writing drivers & software for it. They are doing this because they like to, not because it is there job. When you are doing what you love you always do a better job. I have nothing against Microsoft. They share so many files between programs to save space, that I think they get confused or over loaded. Hope I could help.
