Ok... I'm basically trying to setup my 2nd pc as a all around server, webserver, email, ftp, and give the internet to my main pc, and maybe my old mac..... but I'm clueless
My 2nd pc is a 766mhz with 128mb ram. I have mandrake linux 10.1 for it. I've installed it on there fresh but I can't figure it out at all...
I'm more used to windows, and although I could get what I want at least partially with windows... I've been told, and believe from my own
experince that linux would be much more stable and have more tools, etc. I'm on a DSL connection, and I have a domain name and webserver that I pay for already, the webserver isn't taking renewals, so I basically want to
route the domain to my home IP and use that other machine with linux to replace the webserver, but like I said I don't know where to start. By the way, my IP is static.I would appreciate any help anyone could give his is really my first experince with linux... I've seen it a couple of times but not messed with it... and I would love to hear any advice anyone has... and if anyone has any links to anykind of tutorials or anything that would be great. thanks!

For the webserver part, mandrake probably has the option to install the Apache web server durring setup, check out the /var/www/ directory for adding content. For redirecting the domain name to your server, you can use the free DNS service at http://dns.minidns.net/ :)
For network access sharing, you can use NAT. Some info on setting it up can be found here: http://www.fs-security.com/docs/connection-sharing.php
Hope I helped some :)

okies, I'll check that stuff out... thanks, lol
btw, it would be helpful if someone could post a link to like a basic tutorial or something of linux, I'm doing ok I guess figuring stuff out on my own but I'd like to have a lil something to give me a lil help and make sure I don't break it :P
Like I did windows when I first got it =P
Granted I can do wonders with windows now,
but linux has so much more potential!
Not to mention the fact its free! =)*grumble - why do like all the games have to be windows games? Means If I ever figure out linux and use it as my desktop os, I'll have to keep xp around to play games.... oh well, lol
Thanks For all your help and have a GREAT day! =)

There is a wealth of documentation to do just about anything at The Linux Documentation Project (www.tldp.org) and you will probably find manyu of the howtos already installed on your system (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/categories.html)
You'll find out all about converting from windoze and setting up a firewall, server etc in there. As for games your sort of right but it is getting better. More games are being ported to GNU/Linux and you can run a lot with cedega, formally called winex (www.transgaming.com). When I have time I can play GTA3, Black & White, Incredible Machine etc at home using winex. Not all games play so you may be better off dual booting with XP. You can also run other windoze apps using wine (www.winehq.com and www.codeweavers.com/site/products)....but it is often better to find a native linux equivalent, a good place for software is http://freshmeat.net.
