hey,
I'm having trouble setting up a linux gateway on my network. Here it the setup I have:

| Cable Modem |
| 24.214.100.1 |
|
|
| 24.214.100.122 | <---external IP
| Gateway Comp. |
| 10.74.9.10 | <---internal IP
|
|
| 10.74.9.x in subnet |

I can ping the internal IP on the gateway machine from the internal network, but i can't ping the external IP on the gateway machine. Any info regarding routing will be appreciated.

Thanks
-Scrappy

Reply:

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
Then configure static routes or run routed.

be sure your nameserver IPs are in resolv.conf as well. Without those, all you can do is ping.
