The syntax for Linux? If you haven't yet noticed, "Linux" is a kernel of an OS, not a programming language.
http://www.kernel.org
http://www.gnu.org

are some of the urls you should visit.

There are 10 kinds of people, those who count in binary and those who don't.

here is a good list of commands for a bash shell and nt's command.exe
http://www.ss64.com/index.html
If you know the nt command, they will tell you related bash commands and vice-versa.
excellant resource.
o'rielly also has a great book-
Linux in a Nutshell...
Good Luck

Bash is the default shell in most distros I have installed. That includes slackware as well as the easy ones like mandrake and RedHat and Suse.
I have an account on a Unix machine and they put me in a K shell (korn) I quickly changed it to the Bourne Shell. I stuill havent seen any difference in it and the Bourne Again Shell(Bash)I have the Linux in a nutshell book and the majority of the book is on the BASH shell with a very small section on the Cshell and Tshell
Most people dont relize that linux is just the kernel and the rest of the operating system is GNU for the most part.
I agree with whoever said it should be called GNU/Linux so uptight people dont get so uptight. Maybe they should try GNU/Hurd and then see how uptight they can get.

I believe Ronald is correct in saying that BASH is the default shell many Distros. I think that qualifies as a relation.
I think you were correct to point jdy to
http://www.kernel.org and
http://www.gnu.org and to correct him in his thinking that Linux is a OS. However his question was regarding Syntax, and since BASH is the most common shell, it would be more helpful to lead him that direction other then mock him.
This forum is to help each other.
