Hi, I'm an intermediate linux user, i've been using it in my main computer for like 3 months now, I made the change to linux since I've read in a lot of places that it is very stable, so I got fed up with windows and installed linux. I'm using a distribution called Vector Linux, version 2.0, i'm running it on a pentium 1 133 mhz with 40 mb ram and has a 50 mb swap file, there are sometimes where it crashes on me (everything stops, the mouse pointer doesnt move and everything stops), this happens to me once in a while, but not as much as it would in windows, is this crash normal? or is there a problem with the distribution?

Next time this happens, try pressing
alt+ctrl+F3. This should give you a command
line login. If this works then login and
check two files. "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"
and users home directorys
".xsession-errors". See what went from and
where. Also if the machine freezes up
completely (this does not work/can't login
through ssh or telnet server) check the
/var/log/XFree86.0.log" after next time you
get to login.

Ah forgot. If you get to login after
alt+ctrl+F3, you can also try to kill X and
restarting it. And alt+ctrl+F7 takes you
back to x after alt+ctrl+F3.
