Hello all. This is going to be a little off of topic but I need help. I managed to get my hands on a Asus PCI/I-P54NP4D motherboard that has a pair f P133 inside of it. My plan is to use this as a webserver.
My problem is that I cannot find a BIOS upgrade that will allow my Seagate 10 Gig HDD to work when the computer is turned on. I've tried Asus, Award. All to no luck. I would prefer not having to pay anything for this update to the BIOS.
HDD manufacturer's have utilities that help ileviate the BIOS' limitations. This information is stroed in the MBR. Would installing LILO in the MBR affect that information?
any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

I'm not sure about that - may be worth asking the producers of the utilities.
I have used utils such as Disk Manager which use overlay files, but not with Linux installations. There's a Lilo Mini How-To here which may have something in it (haven't read it all yet):
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/LILO.html
Another idea is to partition the HDD leaving a small DOS partition, boot to DOS leaving the MBR as it is, and use a floppy to boot Linux. If this is to be used as a server, hopefully you won't need to boot very often.
I use Win 98 DOS diskette and Loadlin to boot Linux because you can put information about memory etc in the batch file using any text editor. There are various other advantages also.
Hope it works out!
W
