have an allegro ess 1988 soundcard and red hat linux 7.2- modprobe thing recognizes my soundcard but says its unsuable because of a of some kind of thing i need to disable in my bios, the thing is there's no such option. So I manually configured my modules.conf file using the maestro 3 driver. This is what a page say I read said i should do in order to get it working, so after rebooting and running sndconfig everything should be fine...And it was for a while then everything went bezerk! No if the system tryies to play a sound event under the gnome desktop it goes into an endless loop playing the sample over and over and making linux crash-big time. I expect this from something like windows xp not linux...Playing an mp3 results in skippy playback like the sound has been chopped! I will go thru the whole mp3 though. Are there any tips or maybe even a fix that will help me with this little problem
