I just installed RH 7.2 on my notebook but
it's sssoooo slow.It takes 5 seconds just
for the prompt to come up when I open a
terminal window.

It's a celeron 400, 64MB RAM, 6 gig HD and
RH install created a 133MB swap partition.

I wonder:

Is this enough to run RH 7.2 + KDE or do I
need more RAM and/or a bigger swap
partition?? (I have a pentium 266 desktop
with 160MB RAM and it runs 3 times as fast.)

Do I need a "less heavy" distro (Debian ?)

How about the swap partion, Does it make any
difference if I make it bigger, it looks
like it's swapping all the time.

Maybe someone run in to the same problems
and has the answer, please let me know.

Greetz, Oscar

see what type of processes are running in the background, if you are running httpd, ftpd, etc...it can take up resources, also see you don't have unnecessary device drivers loaded

also it would help if you could name the laptop by brand, if this particular laptop has similar problems, it would be posted somewhere, probably with a fix too....

search yahoo with brandname+linux to see what others have been doing with your kinda laptop.

hope it helps
