Ok, I am having one odd problem with my main linux hard drive. Everything went down hill while in Linux one day, I came back to my PC to see my video had a wierd display. After shutting down the PC and replacing the video out I got password problem. Linux keeps saying my password is invalid for both user and root accounts. I used the same password on all my other linuxs boxes- root123 just a simple password. I have printed out pages on how to chage your password but I am just a basic linux user and cant get it figured out. I also downloaded software that would allow me to atleast access the drive from windows and recover my files but I cant get the partition where my files are. A recover of my files would be good but I would really like to get the password figured out. I am running Linux Fedora Core 5 and I had already installed all codes/files needed for MP3/Audio/DVD/AVI ect.. playback. I have another PC running a version of FC5 right now but when I went to install all the codes again half them where longer available... I really have no idea what todo, I dont know how to use the Console or Terminal windows that much. Please any help on this problem would be nice.

I also forgot to mention that I tried to put the drive into another PC and now I cant get the video installed because the password has changed. Also is this just a bug with the linux FC5 distrubtion? I dont understand myself how the OS can change the password by itself. Thanx
Summary: Modern UNIX systems use shadow passwords, so /etc/passwd, being world-readable, stores everything except password hashes. That brings me to the second problem. I don't think any modern OS (I know this...
