linux networking questions

I have Red Hat linux 5.1 on a very ancient 486 with 800MB hard drive. I also have a Pentium3 550 with a 25GB hard drive. I am going to network the 2 together and I have some questions.
1)When looking in a Linux book it seems to me samba is set up so linux is automaticly the server, if is this true how can I set it up differently.
2)Because I have such a small hard drive and a full version of Redhat 7.2 is around 900MB I was wondering is I could partition the 550 and use it as a storage space for linux.
3)I wanted to install UNIX and other versions of Linux on the 550 and access it through the 486. When accessing the hard drive of the 550 will I be able to use the different partions even if someone is on another one? Will I need a boot disk and where would i bet the the programs to go on a boot disk?
4)Where could I find a partioning utility that won't erase my windows files?

whoa! slow down. as with everything in computers: one thing at a time.
now is the 550 a windows machine or a linux box? or is it a windows box you are trying to create a dualboot windows/linux? we'll get to the rest in time.
