Hi,

I able to ping to linux server but from client but i 'm unable to ping from same linux servers to any client machines. If i telnet to my linux server from client i 'm getting login prompt after 2 minutes.I don't have that much network traiffic.I thought it is network card problem then replaced it then it could not solve the problem then i thought it is switch problem then connected to another port and also another switch directly also not solved then i thought PCI problem connected the hard disk from present linux server to another hardware server alltogether and booted up with new hardware but still same problem exist.
I have seen all possbile networking files but did not get any clue.if you say # arp -a i get same blank on all instances above what i did and same old ping problem and telenet problem.Actually my clients do ftp to that servers but it takes long time to get there files.I think it some problem in o.s. level. Can anybody please help me out.

Sincerely,

dns lookup or name lookup are probably involved in the delay for your telnet/ftp connection.

Make sure all client's host name are correctly registred in dns zone or in /etc/host (and match pc's NIC config)

Otherwise, your linux server may problem resolving thoses name (if using dns). verify the /etc/resolv.conf file.

The ping problem appear as an other problem!! Maybe bad NIC drivers or incompatible NIC. Try an other NIC brand name for your tests.
