Still not enough info. What are your system specs? Do you have an ethernet/network card installed? or is it integrated into the motherboard? Was it properly recognized by Mint during the installation?

Tell us what brand and model of modem and how it connects to your system. Might help to tell us how it connected in windows.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I think you're missing the boat.

How does your modem connect to the PC....with a USB cable or an ethernet cable? You know the difference, right?

ethernet plug

USB plug

My guess is it's an ethernet connection. If the ethernet/network card isn't recognized by Mint, there's no way for Mint to recognize the modem.

"i have open suse,unbuntu...as well....i am using RJ45 cabel"

Meaning what? You have Open Suse, Ubuntu & Mint all installed on the same system? Triple boot setup? or you have all 3 discs & can install any one of them? Have you tried the others & had the same problem with the network?

Since you're using an "RJ45 cabel", your modem is connected to the ethernet port. That info leads us right back to the main question --- is your ethernet/network card being recognized by the OS ???

actually the linux..opensuse 11.1 ..currently installed on my pc(not all and also not possible)

thankx to all......commited to my questions....

i was totally confused by the net......i.e.....i was reading the all old things....developed for the old version linux o.s...
latest linux versions.....have the all facilities inbuilt

for network configuration these contains

DSL
modem
Isdn
network setting

yast(the best thing)
->hardaware information

harware information options lets me know about all the harwares attached to it.......then it tells me about my eth0 network interface card.....
after that i goes for the modification of the DSL ....and their it uses the eth0 ......and asked for the username and password....and ...all doneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......

Something wrong with me? I didn't understand anything 420 posted; reminds me of a 20 year old voice to text aplication.

Guess at it, yes; understand it, no.
