Well, my specs are still working on, but i want to make a server and probably have some mail services and FTP type stuff. Plus host my own web site. What im clueless about is do i have to contact my ISP before i do this?? Also anyone know of a good tutorial to help me get started and learn how to maintan it and keep it running at its top. I am a Window user, but have been trying to convert to Linux but having a hard time so i know a few things about Linux but not a lot so yea.
The dumber prople think you are, the more surpised they're going to be when you kill them.

You probably wont have to inform your ISP unless you expect large amounts of traffic through your website.
For lots of documentation and howtos visit The Linux Documentation Project http://www.tldp.org/

I disagree. Many ISP's prohibit WEB servers - period. IMHO, you should contact your ISP to make sure. If your user agreement prohibits running a WEB site through the connection, you could not only lose your ISP service, but face legal action in some instances.
If indeed your ISP prohibits WEB servers, the alternative is to set up a WEB site using WEB space provided by a WEB hosting service.
Google for webhost, do a little shopping around, then choose a host. Many provide Linux servers as well as technical support.

Since i dont c the legal agreement since well i dont worry about that because well my parents dont let grrr. Anyways i doubt they would but ill share with u guys when i contact them.
