I have a weird problem with my new Mandrake 9.0 install.
It won't let me login as root. I type in "root" and my password, but it always comes up "login incorrect". Although, I can login with my other user name just fine, but do not have root access.
The weird thing about it is, when I tried to login in Single User Mode ("linux single" via LILO) I was able to login as root with the same password. I was also able to enter my root password when it asked for it while I issued a "shutdown" command under my other user name.
Please help!

Did your logical install properly,there are usually a few different options depending on which paramaters you choose resulting in a similar problem.

do one thing first login as user then
type "su" it asks for root password
it will gets login as root

Tried that already (advice from anohter Linux user) and it worked.
But why can't I login at startup?
I've heard this could be some kind of option or "feature" in which you can't login as root directly. Anyone know how to turn this off?
Thanks!

I'm a little confused as to when you can and can't login to root...Do you go text or gui login? I've never really heard of it not letting you log in as root tho.... If you GUI try:
click "K" button
controle center->system->login manager
click Users tabadd root to the login screen. Maybe the password will work then..... Don't know. You can login as root thru gui login, but can't login thru text?
