Hello i have installed linux for the first time. While installation i have benn asked for entering root password which i did but when i boot linux a promt asking for local host login occurs . What is this . I dont know what to do . Anyone can please help me. Thanx in advance

That's what it's supposed to do.
Did you create any other users during install?
If not, log in as root with the password you supplied before and then type: #adduser username where username is the name of the user you want to use as default. Then logoff (^D), and log in as the new user. If you want a graphical display, try startx when logged on as the new user.
