I have been trying to insall the 2.6 kernel for a while. I can get it install but always with problems. I got most of them to work but I still cant get my usb mouse to work or my sound. I just go back and mess with the settings in config but I dont know what most of them do. I was wondering if there was a huge documentation of what all the options mean and do.

If the answer is yes to dl0nra's questions, did you even try to select "HID mouse support" and also the driver for your perticular card under "sound support", while configuring linux with menuconfig?

There are 10 kinds of people, those who count in binary and those who don't.

Yes I have a sound card, and it was working fine with the defualt install. I do have the driver. I have an Ensoniq 1371. I got the mouse to work. I had the HID support but I missed the USB hub support itself so that is fine now. All I need is the sound to work. Any suggestions?

i have this sound card (speak of coincidence) on my older PC. Requires es1371, ac97_codec, soundcore modules. If these are not compiled,
you need to re-config and recompile kernel+modules.
