Sir, I hv installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 recently in my PC. How can I set up Internet connection using LAN connectivity. I have already installed the broadband client in my PC using the Konsole command of "tar" etc. i am able to install the software and i am not able to configure the IP address and also the Gateway. when i click on the computer centre network .. it says it is unable to connect. Kindly tell me how this is done in Linux. In my same machine i have dual partition with windows 2000 NT PRO, where the internet works very fine and no problem. I have contacted the ISP and downloaded the tar file for LINUX and have untarred it. Where am i going wrong and what are the steps to achieve connectivity thru LINUX. Thanks Jagannathan Balaji

Just do it through the CLI.
ifconfig eth0 down ifconfig eth0 (insert your IP here) ifconfig eth0 up route add default gw (IP of your gateway)
It's really so much easier than all the GUI crap. Oh yeah dont forget to add all of this to your rc.local file usually located in /etc/rc.d folder. Not sure what it is on a Mandrake box but just do a locate or find and add that text so that it does everything for you when you boot the system.
