Hello fellow Linux gurus!

Like many, many linux users out there, I *desperately* want to rid myself of any/all Micro$oft products, but am forced to keep a Windows O/S around for my gaming needs. I have done lots of research/looking into porting games to linux. I've used wine and have successfully run (simple) windows applications (such as Notepad).

I have also seen that winex is a port of wine that delivers DirectX support. However, I have not been able to fully run/play any game that I have tried (Specifically, the Sims and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds).

I believe that a simple, yet fully functional set of instructions (like a howto) to implement linux gaming would be very beneficial to the Linux gaming community.

Anyway, if someone would take the time to guide myself, step by step, through getting the Sims or Star Wars GB to work for me on my linux desktop, I would very happily port this set of instructions, complete with screenshots, 'pitfall' comments, etc. to html and upload to a web server for the benefit of the linux community.

I really appreciate replys and/or the time you took to read this. Please help me make this simple for even linux newbies!

Thanks!!!!!!

Brian

I know that you can buy the Sims for Linux, Mandrake had a gaming version of the distro. This pack included the sims. Check out Mandrake site.

win4lin and vmware are 2 options to allow you to run any windows program from
within linux, but they cost money.

WOW!!!!!!!

Now that I have added the correct driver for my nVidia TNT2 card, the gaming is *so* much faster. Spiderman was running faster than it did on the Micro$oft side!!!!!!!!!!

Linux Gaming: 1 Microsoft 0

This is a big win for linux gaming!!!
