Linux freezes

I use Red Hat Linux 6.2 and when I open a program or configure the settings, Linux freezes up. It is mainly the panel and icons that freeze, making it unable to click on anything and leaving me no choice but to reboot the system. The strange thing is that some things still work, Enlightenment for example as well as windows that were open before Linux froze up. I have a Pentium II 500mhz 64 megs of sdram. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hmm, I don't have a fix in mind, however instead of rebooting the system, use ctrl+alt+F2 and open another console and kill the other session, at least you won't have to do a reboot. I'd check on Redhats site and see if this is a known issue with a possible fix available.
