Any i386-i586 version in text mode. In Gui any i386-i586 distro with a light window manager such as WindowMaker. I'd suggest you add at least another 64mb though. It will make a world of difference. Running RedHat 7.0 (old I know but "just works" and gnome 1.2 is very usefull if outdated as well ;), knoppix hdd install is fine too, on this P200mmx with 128 megs of ram and it just hums along. Using Opera 7.52 static as a browser. Be prepared to do a lot of reading and learn new concepts.

I believe VidaLinux or is it Vector, anyways, one of them may be suitable. It is intendend for such machines as yours as well as older ones.
Tried RH, Suse, Mandrake, Core 2, Ubuntu(nice and easy), Knoppix, etc. Running Linare now on a 800 mhz Celeron w/ 128 RAM. As Hmmm stated, mem upgrade is of utmost importance if ya want it to respond well. Good luck

Pardon me, I suffer from ethical egoism, and whats best for me, goes.

Nobody's mentioned Damn Small Linux yet.
That's going on my P-166 48MB RAM.

I'm typing this on Slax, a minimalist Live
CD version of Slackware, which you might
want also want to try.
