Linux for Gateway computer

I am wondering whether anyone has an experience in installing Linux (Red Hat) onto a Gateway computer (with onboard video card/sound card/modem).
I wanted to experiment with Linux (the Red Hat I have is version 6).
I called up Gateway tech support but they told me that Gateway does not have drivers nor do they support Linux.
So far I can install the O/S plus some applications. But the graphic is horrible. Plus I can't get any sound or the modem to work given the non-availability of drivers.
Can anyone let me know whether they have successfully done what I am attempting to do? Or is there any place where I can download such drivers?

You really need to know the make/model of your motherboard and see if there is support for that (far more likely than someone from gateway being able to help).

If you installed a more recent version of RedHat, it would probably have much better graphics, sound, and modem support, including autodetecting most hardware.
