How hard would it be for a total stranger to Linix to set up a home based Internet server for his own website? I have a basic understanding of DOS. How expensive would it be? Would it be worth it?

It really isn't hard at all if that is what you are looking to do. Mandrake 8.0 comes with everything you need. Just choose the packages and go. Make sure you choose all the web packages when installing. I am running that setup at www.outdoors-indiana.net and it has been very stable and FREE for me. I have integrated cgi- scripts and mysql databases. If you have any questions about it don't hezssitate to ask. I know I rambled.
