I have two questions
I need a little help regarding to Red Hat Linux9 . Just like in windows in the system try we can see the LAN icon (Tow tiney monitors) which show that the data is moving.
Is there any option in Linux 9 or Red Hat Linix Enterprtise 4 AS which may show such thing?2-Under / there are many directories like
/boot
/bin
/sbin
/etc
/usr
/var
/drv
etc etc i can see in /usr/usr/bin/
/usr/include/
/usr/sbin/
/usr/localthese folders are already under the root tree so what is the purpose of same folders repeatring under "/usr" dir.
thanks

OH MY!
Might look at Fedora. It has fancy gizmo's.
Two things on the directory structure. #1 is, it is not like windows. #2 What you see may or may not be what is on the disk. The structure display is relative to other settings.
#3 is a favorite of an electronic teacher I had 25 years ago. He would say this when we asked too many questions. "F$ck, I don't know, I didn't design the D$%ned thing!"
I sometimes use it also.
Official word might be closer to tradition or convention from prior installs and because people don't like change.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

well i am using Linux 9 bcz i have lot of books on it.Though it is old but the commands are same.Actually iam using PII my hardware does't support new products.
Instead of Fedora what u say about CentOS?
It is close to Enterprise edition but Fedora i does't know about it.Please give me your opinion on both products.
thanks

Firstly if you are going to use Linux forget everything you know about windblows!!!!
If i recall you should be able to add a network monitor by right clicking on the panel and clicking on 'Add to panel' this should take you to a menu of available apps.
With regards to your question about the /usr directory I would suggest you read about the Linux FSH in one of your many books. You will never get Linux if you don't understand it's filesystem layout.
This link is a good place to start
