I used to have Creative Blaster External Modem and it was working just fine with RedHat Linux until I couldn't stand the speed, 56K, anymore and switched over to DSL... That modem supposed to be a cheapo!

The external modem is a hardware modem...therefor it will work fine. The only modems that usually wont work under linux are winmodems. These modems are software driven and vendors don't release the specs for these modems very often.
I always loved the US Robotics external. Hayes was good to.
