the reason i'm posting this is because i tried to get an answer here and couldnt, so i'm answering a questing i posted like 3 months ago for other users future reference
if you want to go el cheapo or simply hate giving m$ money here is something pretty cool, you can do the new XP remote desktop thing or have microsoft terminal server clients with out having to use microsoft windows!!!
1. go to www.rdesktop.org
2. download the source code
3. gunzip it, or tar -xzvf it, or whatever
4. go to the directory with the Makefile and type 'make'
5. copy the binary (called rdesktop, incidentally) into your executables
directory and 'chmod ug+x' it.note you must be in the csh to compile, correct me if i'm wrong on any of this people!

You can also use xrdesktop if you want a gui to it.
Unfortunately, unless you are running the server in administration mode you still need to pay for a M$ TCAL. What was your question a few months ago?
BTW, remote desktop (RDP) is not new to XP but has been around since WinFrame and NT4 Terminal Server edition.

I was wondering if i could use linux or bsd for a terminal client for remote desktop and terminal server, i just recently heard of RDP so it was new to me ;)
my main purpose was to get rid of my 2k box at work so i can just use linux, i dont like using ms products but thats what the rest of the foo's at my office use so i used to be stuck w/ it, i am now trying to make it work on my powerbook running OSX, have to download a bunch of libraries and such, still havent gotten but hope to soon

I run slackware here at work and intergrate it fine with our win2000 network with the exception of our exchange server on which I have had to enable IMAP, the alternative being that I pay for the evolution exchange connector. Oh and access databases (if I need to open them I just use our citrix server), but apart from that I can do everything I need to.
