Hi all,

I have just installed RedHat 7.3 Vahalla, whatever it is.

I am having problem with my Automatic Power Managment Dameon. I wish to turn it off, because my laptop goes into sleep after every 2 minutes.

The APM daemon starts at the begining of the bootup. I tried to kill it in from the Servives Configurations, but still it is there. I also used the command /sbin/chkconfig apmd off , but it does not kill it.

I want to KILL this AMP, please help me.

Well, I can imagine of a perfect way to kill it for certain: remove it from the kernel. I forgot the command that tries to do this but have a look at the "insmod" man page ant at the section "see also" should say something about the removal of modules. The module is probably called "apm" so inserting it would mean "insmod apm" Find the appropriate command for removing.
I said the command that tries to remove athe module because as far as I know not every kernel supports module un-loading. Yjis has to be specified at compile time.
If you can'd remove it this way you'll have to recompile the kernel. (Anyway I higly reccomend it to everyone: make your own kernel personalized for your onw PC/laptop).
Hope this helps.
Alex.

Are you sure your BIOS power settings are not putting it in sleep mode?

Also, are you using KDE??

Here is a program to set laptop power settings in KDE:http://www.taniwha.com/laptop/

You can also use a boot option like append="apm=off acpi=on"
