Comment:

I plan to install Linux on the 40gb partition of my 160gb HD, the other 120gb is XP Pro.
I have never installed a dual boot system.
I just wanted some tips or to know if there is anything i should look out for..

Thanks in advance
Jason

Linux comes in all kinds of flavors,It all depends on what you like. I have used Mandriva 2005 along with XP, and they work pretty good together. One of the problems you will have is your modem... You might need an external modem.
I have tried about 8 to 10 different linux versions, and they all would not work with my internal modem.. Suse is a real nice linux to use, but I find Mandriva finds and setup most everything..

I'm sure it would have taken far fewer changes of modem than distro to find one that worked! Newer Modems (along with other hardware and software, games etc) seem to be supported more for M$ than other. For the manfacturers it is far cheaper to provide software drivers than to make it on a chip. Find a modem that conforms to standards rather than relying on bespoke windoze drivers

ActionTec external modem works very good on All
Distros of linux,Some people don't know how to change a modem or work on there own computer.
Plus I have been testing linux now for 6 years my friend and they have all not been on the same computer.. Plus: An external modem will give you a higher dialup speed.. I can get up too 57 kbps..
