I would like to know if there is a good way to install Linux and windows on different partitions and get it work good. I heard that if you donīt install them properly Linux will run slower.
Please help!

Who told you such a thing??? Perhaps someone
would tell you that if you don't install
Linux correctly, it won't work. Now, that I
can understand. It shouldn't be a problem
having both Windows and Linux on a same
machine as long as you install Windows first
and then Linux. While installing Linux, use
either lilo or grub to do your dual boot.
I have Win2000 and Linux running on my
machine in my office while Win98 and Linux
running on another machine at home. So
problems whatsoever.

I have WinXP Prof. and Linux (Suse 8.0) on a High AMD XP Machine and it runs very well. Linux can't be slower, because no WinXP-Components are used for booting linux. Tip: install Windows first, than linux and see http://sdb.suse.de/ for the boot conzepts.

Maybe what you heard was about umsdos. Umsdos is another layer on top of an existing fat partition to provide unix fs semantics, and as such it's not a native linux/unix filesystem and hence slower. But if you use seperate partitions, you will always have a native linux fs (unless you do something stupid during install).
