Linux and Noisy hard disk

i have windows 2000 and red hat 7.2 installed on the same hard disk. The problem is when I am using Linux, the hard disk accesses is noiser than when i am using windows 2000. is it normal?

never happened for me. Have you run a file system check lately? I'd say run scandisk but that's not possible with ext2.

Windows has always accessed the hard drive more for me than linux, but I can't read anything over the cpu fan anymore so I can't say.
