I am a newbie to Linux, but I would like to setup a small network consisting of (2) servers and 3-5 workstations. The first server will be running Windows 2000 Server, and the second server will be Running Linux Red Hat 6.1 or 7. The workstations will be running Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP. I would like to find a good how guide the explains setting up and running a Linux and Windows server on the same network. Any help would be greatly appreciated

What would you like to use the linux server for on your network? Are you using it to perform your NAT and IP masquerading or to fileshare or as a mail server or what? Provide a little more information as to why you would like a linux and a windows server on your network and people here would be happy to ehlp im sure. Mail me when you respond so i can repost.

I will probably just set it up for file sharing with Samba (I need to learn more about Samba). I would like to try to run some Applications from the Linux server, I have heard of Windows emulators that enable you to run Windows based applications on a Linux server, I am not sure of this though. Basically, I just want to learn how to setup a small network and incorporate a Linux server setup at the same time with a server running Windows. I have no real reason for doing it other than to learn more about Linux and networking with Linux and Windows (servers). Also, what are the major differences between installing Red Hat Linux 7 and Red Hat 7 Server? I am assumming that it is just like installing Windows 2000 server and Windows 2000 Pro or XP. Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it. I would like to hear any ideas anyone wants to send.

Linux unlike windows does make any differnece in server or Client.
Know when install Red hat I think that version ask you if want client or server. Believe no differnce except if use the wizzard it will optimize for one or the other so if beginner go through the wizzard and choice server.
Next Make sure Samba is setup the wizard does not real do a good job on this you have to read. Here the best sight for more info: www.samba.org
In fact the a recent Linux maganize with artical explain configure linux as NT Server might want grab and check it out
