thxs

He sounds full of it. He is just trying be cool with his *nix box.
Maybe he is a cracker or script kiddie - in that case block his server's IP address.

His box is more capable in that it is more stable and he has a lot more software at his disposal(The advantage of Linux) . He is probably just running his mouth. If you are practicing good security measures then you should be OK. If you have a good firewall setup You should be able to tell if he is scanning your ports etc.
I agree with anonproxy just block his IP and forget about it.
Good Luck
Ron

Some background on this software? You're running Windows 2000 Advanced Server and you are not even vaguely familiar with a little something called Linux? Get on the net and do some searching, looking for something that starts out by saying "Linus Torvalds began creating Linux in 1991 while a student at the University of Helsinki.....". It's hard to believe that someone who is running a server OS today doesn't even know about Linux. Maybe if you were informed, you'd have made a better choice in operating systems.

I am teaching myself MCSA, so i would like to know as much info as possible to put in my little mind, so any info counts, hence this forum.
How do i block IP then in win2k?
thanks

I think, that if you see a little to your left side in this page, there is a section that says Windows 2000 (you might have to scroll up to see it). Go there and ask those questions there. I know win2000 too, but this forum is for Linux :D

C'mon people, stop abusing the guy. He came here for answers.
Abagezzer, it's my experience that Linux is more stable and has better server apps.
In fact I wouldn't even try to use windows as a server because because of that and the fact that you get Linux for free.
That doesn't mean that you can necessarily use it to break into Windows servers. Hell if his Linux server isn't configured correctly you can break into it from your Windows box.
Tell your mate to go pack sand.

Yes, sir, officer, I mean Deputy, Doo Dah. I'll try to cut the guy some slack, but Windows-only administrators annoy me.

When we (Linux people) treat others badly, we make them want to be windows administrators.
Arabgezzer, we all would encourage you to drop windows server and switch to Linux. I did it myself and haven't looked back. It takes a little learning, but all the resources and written instructions you need are freely available on the web. You won't find anything like it for windows.
It really comes down to using the best tool for the job. Linux is a sronger, cheaper, and more versatile tool than windows is. Right now MS has set up a lab full of Linux boxes and they're trying to copy its features so that they can compete with it. That tells you something.

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was treating others badly. It just bugged me that he was using Windows 2000 Advanced Server and knew not of Linux, as if the default OS is always Windows. I guess my anger isn't really directed at him, but at Windows' monopoly. Once again, I apologize for my misdirected anger. Good luck learning computers and especially Linux!
