This typically looks like a situation for several support desks.

Drivers (use Red Hat 8 drivers) can be downloaded from compaq's website. Also Hewlett Packard and Compaq do state their equipment is ready and optimized for Linux.

Red Hat 9 also has an extensive support helpdesk.

You might want to consider acquiring a proffessional linux version. I will not say that Linux 9.0 is not proffessional. But since you've bought an expensive piece of dual processing hardware, it might be wise to buy a software packet that has to be paid for but is tuned for this kind of equimpent.

Considering you are handling a non-standard expensive piece of equipment, you might want to consider buying a linux package (in which case you'll receive all the support help you might ever need), which has been tuned for the processing power uou have.

You could send an email to enterprise-presales@suse.com for their offering. Include in the email the type of the server and the number of CPU's. It might be worth the money.

All the major vendors do sell special packages for servers.

I assume you did follow the installation instructions for linux exactly, which can also be find at:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/compaq-howto-3.html

Maybe it's also useful to check out the site:

http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/partners/compaq

There're no fixes for installation problems with Red Hat 9 / ML 350 but maybe the bugs fixed for red hat 7 sounds familiar to you.

Anyway, I guess it won't do any harm to read through the proposed options.

You're sure the CD's themselves are not damaged (can you check them in another computer?).

Has it been positively identified that the SCSI controller is the bottleneck which keeps frustrating you?

Your system should work under Linux 8, so it's reasonable that Linux 9 also will work fine with it.

Dear Sir,

We are able to boot from the Linux 9 cd. At one stage it is asking
"what type of media contains the packages to be installed?
local cd rom
hard drive nfs image
ftp
http"
I have selected Local CD ROM. It is giving
" Red Hat linux cd is not found in any of your cd rom drive".

UPGRADATION FROM 8 TO 9
We have installed linux 8 in this It is ok.
Let me know if possible how to upgrade it to linux 9.

I have tried to upgrad it to 9 through autorun of linux 9 cd. In this autorn application(window) prompt all the packages are selected and none of the GUI /KERNAL INSTALLATIONS are selected.

Server Details:
Compaq ML 350 G3 with Xeon processor with IDE CD Drive.
