Don't know much about Linspire
but Linux is getting pretty easy to use and configure Itself... Mandrake 10 cd's can be had for the time it takes to dl them... Unsure if Suse 9.1 Distro is available for free I recently just went ahead and bought it from a retail outlet ,,,Suse 9.1 Pro that is ,,,
Doesn't seem to load on my old computer though a celeron 633 ,,, Mandrake did ok 9.1 that is ,,, dual booting on my comps the p.4 Suse 9.1 did Great!! with xp ... win 2000 with mandrake 9.1 Haven't tried solaris or Mandrake 10 though either

In time I may try Linspire myself... Just to see what it is like ,,, I know the open office project works well and there still is a lot to learn on my end as I'm a major Linux newbie.... But it is easy as pie and works well ....
It's not windows!!! I'm sure you would become frustrated by Having to learn something new!!! and the learning curve for anything takes time .... .So the choice to make is What do you want to do???

MSI 845e mb 768 mb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

Both Mandrake 10 and SUSE 9.1 are free downloads from www.linuxiso.org.

For a complete newbie: Linspire (Lindows)
For someone who knows what a computer is: Mandrake
For someone who's ready for the next step: Suse

Although each of these choices are just as powerful as the others, Linspire and Mandrake a bit more newbie friendly than Suse. Personally Suse is my favorite, but you won't go wrong with any of them.

You can download a free copy at this address http://info.linspire.com/p2p/p2p-pr.html You will need to install BitTorrent to get the download, but the price is right and BitTorrent is spyware free.

Linspire is probably not a great idea for you, I would go with redhat or mandrake if I were you. For those of you who don't know, Linspire was the new name Lindows got for themselves, because they lost the right to use lindows as a name in a few countries (US not being one of them). Lindows was the great os that Wallmart decided to put on ther computers, while lindows was still in its beta form! and showed to be very unstablein its fully developed version, they may have turned Linspire around, but from what I have seen its practcially the same as any linux system that boots into the X11 enviroment
