Hey all. If someone can figure this one out
for me, I'll be eternally gratefull.

I have a linksys router and it works fine.
All my computer, windows and linux alike are
on the web.

I need to telnet from my linux bow, to my
school's server, and edit files on it.
Whenever I run emacs I get bizzare X11 errors
as it tries to connect to my X server. I did
the xhost + to disable access control. I
don't know which ip to give in the command.
I've tried sending my local ip, and my
routers ip. I can't use port fwd'ing cause my
router is acting as a DHCP server. I'm
totally stumped. Any help would be great.

you didnt say what you had set as the DMZ host, try setting the pc you want to gain full access to (on your LAN) as the DMZ host, it sounds like it is trying to access ports on that pc, and the linksys isnt passing the data to the correct pc, or at all. p.s. you can still setup your 1 pc as static even though the linksys is using the DHCP server for the other pc's, just make it higher in the pool so the other pc's wont get up that high, say 192.168.1.200

Have you tried vi, pico, joe, jed or some other editor besides emacs? I don't know the situation but it sounds like you're trying to access an X program instead of a console program. If you can get something else to work, I would ignore emacs and call your school's administrator about it. emacs may require special priviledges or settings to use.

Your trying to connect to your schools
computer and cannot:If telnet is availabe
use it and vi to edit files, it the easy way.

Trying to connect to home from school:
Use port forwarding, or DMZ in the adv
tab. DISABLE DHCP, evidently one guy got it
to work with DHCP enabled but it is rare.
Most LinkSys router have a incomming packet
problem that LinkSys just ignores. Some
people I have set up I have had to enable
DMZ and port forwarding to get it to work.
Some LinkSys routers refuse completely to
forward packets to a ip on your lan. Hope
some of this and the other posts help.
