I have a windows 98 PC. Then I installed MandrakeLinux on the same PC. Now I have both. Lilo will let me choose one of them at boot time. So for so good.

Then I upgrade the Windows 98 to Windows 98 SE. Now I do not get Lilo screen to choose between Linux or Windows at boot time. Only Windows will start up automatically. No Linux any more.

Have any idea how to bring my lilo back and do not loose Windows and Linux both and be able to use both as before.

Thanks.

There are many ways
Here's two of them

1)Download loadlin.exe from the net.
It is a little dos util that you can use
to gain access to linux. Then you just re-run
lilo in order to have the boot sector re-writen

2)Download a mini-distr from the net
and use that to boot into linux.Mount your
linux hard drive and again re-run lilo

Keep around a boot disk that will mount your Linux partition. When Windows mangles your MBR, put in the boot disk, load Linux and reinstall LILO. liloconfig is a nice setup utility in Slackware, I can't say for Mandrake, though. lilo will install it.

Since I am a newbie also, here are some newbie terms that might help you out a little more. .....

Do as buddy said and download loadlin.exe ...
Make a DOS boot disk and add loadlin.exe to your autoexec.bat file . Then add the string parameters to point loadlin to your linux kernel (The text file that comes with loadlin shows examples) - Basically, your HDA1 is primary master, partition 1, HDB2 is primary slave, partition 2 (On EIDE, not scsi), exc....

Now, once linux has started again, go to a console window and type LILO .

This will re-compile the LILO boot menu.

Now you should be OK. Hope I helped any to clarify :) -- LAter.
