hi
i installed turbolinux 6 with no errors or such, along with win ME.

i put lilo in the windows partition and it doesn't show anything; just loads windows normally without prompts or anything...

then when i set the linux partition as bootable i get a 'no OS found' message...

btw i got no idea where to get a floppy bootable from.

where did i go wrong?

What you should have done is install LILO to the master boot record (MBR) then you would get a prompt before windows starts loading asking you to choose which OS you want to run.

well my windows partition is my mbr...
now if i set it as mbr lilo just doesn't do anything: windows just boots normally without prompts or the slightiest sign of anything.
then if i set hda2 (the linux ext2 partition) as mbr, it says it can't find an OS
now what's that?

the only way of using linux i have now is via a boot disk. it says so in the manual and guess what? the cd doesn't include a sysboot.img file that's supposed to be the boot image, and that's mentioned in the manual. now is that just s--- or what??
we're talking about turbolinux 6.
anyways i found a sysboot.img in a japanese turbolinux related ftp, and put it into a disk. it boots ok but guess what? it's a different kernel version!
tl 6's kernel is 2.2.14-5 and this image's is 2.2.9 so i get half linux's functionality (the log from the booting is a whole s---load of error messages).

next: i installed turbolinux again, this time putting lilo in a diskette. i don't know if it's supposed to be that way but the disk remains unchanged, it still has the msdos file system from when i formatted it, and is empty. obviously, i can't boot anything from it.

THEN i tried with loadlin.exe, using the actual kernel from tl 6. under windows it says it performed a 'not permitted operation' (translated from spanish that is; i live in argentina and really would prefer to have everything in english but well...).
then under dos (win98 dos bootdisk) it locks the machine up.

that's about all the ideas i had... so until i can boot the freaking 2.2.14-5 kernel i'm pretty much stuck.

HELP DAMNIT! :-)

I installed linux rh 7. the instalation going well but when system restart it hang after checking swap.

I read the documentation , I should write :
LILO : single user when LILO : show up but I can't do that because the RH 7 picture selecting mode for boot appear immediately after LILO: prompt.

Can I interrupt that process like win 98 with F8 key ?

* Go get your linux boot disk !
* Bootup and login as root !
* type: rm -f /etc/lilo.conf
* type: touch /etc/lilo.conf
* type: vi /etc/lilo.conf
