I am trying to dual boot WinXP pro and Mandrake 8.1. Now, when I install XP on my primary 40GB HD everythings fine. I start install Mandrake 8.1 on my second 8GB HD and it works correctly until it reboots.
There are 2 schools of thought I have heard about for the installation of the bootloader.
1: Install LILO or Grub on my /hda1 - XP's partition
2: Install LILO or Grub on the root of the linux partition - /hdd1/If I follow step 1 at this point the the computer spits out a screen filled with
10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10So I use the WinXP startup disks and get into the recovery console. Now I made a post here yesterday on this topic and someone said to fix my MBR in the recovery mode I type >fixmbr
When I do this it fixes it so that WinXP automatically loads - but doesn't make LILO or Grub workSo I follow method 2 and install the bootloader on /hdd1/ - however, this doesn't seem to do anything as when the system reboots XP loads and LILO or Grub are nowhere to be seen.
Now I can acces my linux OS by inserting the boot disk I created during install, but it seems like an abnormallly excessive amount of delay and f---ing around for what should be a relatively simple problem.
The guys who attempted to help me yesterday had obviously been in the same position as me and somehow resolved it - so it must be possible - and so easy that it is getting frustrating.....thanks in advance
Andre

Why don't you send me your /etc/lilo.conf so I
can take a look at it to see what's wrong?
There is no need to get upset or hot about it!Lawrence
