Comment:

i am looking to install a light weight linux distro on my old tower. hoping to use it as a file or web or ftp or ssh or etc server. it is an old dell dimesion 256MB ram, 233P2 Processor. not sure what the FS Bus is, but don't imagine it is too fast.

does anyone have any suggestions. i use gentoo on my own system, but obviously don't have the cpu for it on this old dell. Because I am a big fan of gentoo, I was looking at Navyn OS which is based around gentoo but doesn't seem to need to compile for an install, and its default desktop is fluxbox which is slick and fast. but do i need to compile any programs i install.

if any one has any other suggestions please point me in that direction. thanks and take care.

there is a really nice version of morphix. its like knoppix where you run it from a cd (basically it is knoppix with a different name). there is a LightGUI option where it runs quite nicely on. but i have installed really heavy distros that ran smoothly on a Pentium 1 200MHz processor and 64 megs of ram but yah go to www.morphix.org and check it out
