Hi, I am trying to install a program from a tarball (gspeakers-0.8.3). When I first tried to install this the configure command gave me a long list of packages I had to update, which I duly did. Now I am left with just one program in the list: libxml-2.0. However I have an RPM installed with that description under Development > Libraries, entitled: Libxml2-2.3.5-1. I also have under System Environment > Libraries, an RPM named libxml10-1.0.0-8. Whatever I do I cannot get this program to install. The error message that the configure command gives out is:
checking for gtkmm-2.0 libxml-2.0... Package libxml-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libxml-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libxml-2.0' foundconfigure: error: Library requirements (gtkmm-2.0 libxml-2.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
Any ideas?Thank you
David

You may have it installed, but libraries come in two parts. The library itself used for running programs, and the -devel part used for compiling stuff against the library.
Look for a package called "libxml2-devel" or something, and install that.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply Richard. I tried what you said, but no luck. Have you got any other ideas? I need to get this program working as part of a project I am doing.
Thanks again
David
